From brick walkways and ivy covered walls to sea oats and a pink and purple sky over the Gulf, this evening is a perfect example of what Rosemary Beach senior photos can look like when a session is planned around both the town and the beach. We started in the heart of Rosemary Beach, Florida, wandered the boardwalks and garden paths, and Miss Maya finished barefoot on the sand as the sun went down. Four outfits, one evening and a senior gallery full of variety.
A Rosemary Beach Senior Session From Town to the Gulf
Rosemary Beach is one of the few places on 30A where a senior can get two completely different looks in one session without ever getting back in the car. We began in town while the sun was still high, using the shade of the live oaks, the ivy covered walls and the clean white stucco to keep the light soft and even. As the evening went on, we followed the boardwalk paths through the dunes and down to the beach for the sunset beach photography portion of Miss Maya’s session.
Town Portraits on the Brick Walkways of Rosemary Beach
Miss Maya’s first look was a black tiered dress, and it was made for the brick walkways and European style architecture of Rosemary Beach. We moved from a seated pose on a white stucco ledge to a few relaxed shots leaning on an ivy covered wall, then went in close for a classic headshot against the greenery. A twirl on a wooden boardwalk and a full length portrait under the live oaks rounded out her first outfit.
For her second look she switched to something casual, and the change gave her gallery an easy, everyday feel. A crisp white wall and a seated pose on a brick path were all we needed. Mixing one dressy outfit with one casual outfit is one of my favorite ways to give a senior gallery range, from the formal portrait for Grandma’s wall to the image that ends up on social media.
Boardwalks, Dunes and Sea Oats
The wooden boardwalks that lead from town to the beach are some of the most photogenic spots in Rosemary Beach. Miss Maya sat on the boardwalk, hugged her knees and laughed through every pose, which made this part of the session feel effortless. Then we stepped into the dunes, where the tall sea oats framed her perfectly in a white dress, creating those soft, coastal portraits that say Florida senior year at a glance.
Sunset Senior Photos on the Beach in Rosemary Beach
The beach in Rosemary Beach faces south over the Gulf, so on clear evenings the color spreads across the whole sky and reflects off the wet sand and water. Miss Maya’s pink dress at the water’s edge was stunning against that sky. We worked in a hair flip at the shoreline, a few seated and lying poses on the sand, and portraits standing in the Gulf as the sky turned pink and purple.
Her final look, a flowing white dress, is the one most seniors dream about for their beach photos. She twirled on the shoreline, stood ankle deep in the surf, kneeled in the water and gave me a confident arms crossed pose in the Gulf. We ended with my favorite playful shots of the night: lying on the wet sand with her feet kicked up while a wave splashed in behind her. Those are the images that show her personality, not just her outfit.
A Few Portraits With Mom and Dad
Senior year is a milestone for the whole family, so I always make time for a few portraits with parents. Miss Maya’s mom and dad joined her on the beach for a handful of images together, and we captured a portrait of the two of them as well. These are the photos parents tell me they treasure most once the graduation party is over and their senior heads off to college.
About Rosemary Beach on Scenic Highway 30A
Rosemary Beach sits on the eastern end of Scenic Highway 30A between Destin and Panama City Beach. The walkable town center, brick paths, garden courtyards, boardwalks and quiet beach make it one of the best senior photo locations on the Emerald Coast. Neighboring Alys Beach and Seaside are just minutes away, and I photograph seniors all along 30A. See more of my work in Rosemary Beach.
Planning Your Rosemary Beach Senior Photos
Want a gallery like Miss Maya’s? Here is how I plan Rosemary Beach senior sessions:
Start in town, finish on the beach. Beginning in town while the sun is high and moving to the sand for sunset gives you the best light in both places.
Bring two to five outfits. My senior sessions run from 30 minutes to 2 hours with 2 to 5 outfit changes. A dressy look, a casual look and a flowing beach dress give your gallery real variety. My guide to what to wear for 30A beach photos covers colors, fabrics and styles that photograph beautifully.
Book early. Summer and fall evenings in Rosemary Beach fill up quickly during senior season, especially for families visiting 30A on vacation.
Plan time for parents. A few minutes with Mom and Dad at the end of the session is always worth it.
