The Cannon Family Sunrise Session on 30A

There is truly nothing like meeting a family on the shore as the first light spills across the Gulf. As a 30A family photographer, sunrise sessions along Santa Rosa Beach and 30A are some of my very favorite — and the Cannon family’s morning was an absolute dream. Mom, Dad, and their four kids — three boys and their sweet sister — gathered on the powdery white sand of 30A just as the sky began to glow in soft pinks, lavenders, and golds. The light, the calm gulf, and the easy laughter of a big family all came together for one of the most beautiful sunrise family sessions I’ve photographed this season.

Coastal Coordinates: Blue, White, and Teal

The Cannons absolutely nailed their wardrobe for a 30A beach session. Mom looked stunning in a flowing white eyelet maxi while their little girl wore a sweet blue floral sundress that matched the morning sky. Dad wore a soft blue polo with khaki shorts, and the three brothers coordinated effortlessly in blues, whites, and a hint of teal — one in a blue striped tee, one in a crisp white shirt with plaid blue shorts, and another in a coordinating blue polo. The palette photographed beautifully against the pastel pink and lavender sunrise sky and the emerald gulf water behind them.

Full Family Portraits at the Water’s Edge

We started with the whole crew — the family of six grinning side by side at the water line, walking hand-in-hand into the surf, and gathered in a tight beach hug. Whether seated together in the soft sand or standing as the waves broke gently around them, the Cannons radiated the kind of warmth and connection that makes 30A sunrise sessions so special.

Sweet Moments with Mom and Dad

Some of my favorite frames of the morning belonged to Mom and Dad. We captured them embracing in the soft sunrise light, cuddling their daughter on the sand, and sharing quiet glances as the sky lit up behind them. Mom posed beautifully with all four of her kids, kneeling in the sand with her two youngest boys, hugging her two littlest sons close, holding her daughter sweetly, and surrounded by her entire crew. Dad stood tall with his four boys and gathered them around him in the sand for a few classic father-and-sons frames.

Sibling and Individual Portraits

The Cannon kids stole the show. We captured the four siblings together — the daughter and her three brothers — plus the four brothers grinning side by side in coordinated blue and white. The two youngest boys held hands near the surf, big sister snuggled her smallest brother, and the only daughter posed sweetly on her own in her blue floral sundress with the pastel sky behind her. Even smaller groupings — three siblings on the sand, mom with three of her sons, dad walking with three boys near the surf — were full of personality.

Why I Love Sunrise Sessions on 30A

A sunrise beach family session offers a unique and magical experience for your family. From the golden hour lighting to the serene atmosphere and the unmatched beauty of the beach, every aspect contributes to creating timeless and cherished memories. Embrace the tranquility of the early morning, immerse yourselves in the beauty of nature, and let the love and joy shared within your family shine through in the photographs.

What to Expect from a 30A Sunrise Session

On the beach I only shoot one session at sunrise or sunset per day. Each session is about 30–45 minutes and we start promptly on time. I am very particular about our start times — the beautiful skies, desired lighting, and temperature variations all contribute to a pleasant photographic experience. If we start too early we can expect squinting eyes, excessive sweating, or harsh shadows. Too late and we lose the beautiful coastal sky. To make sure we are on the same page, I will confirm the exact start time after you book as it varies week to week.

Why Sunrise Is Worth the Early Wake-Up

I know sunrise is early BUT it’s GORGEOUS and totally worth it for a few reasons:

  • Cooler temps during the summer, which means less sweating
  • Beautiful, soft, flattering light
  • Almost no one and no umbrellas on the beach
  • Typically no or very little wind
  • Calmer waves
  • No revolving your day around making sure the kids get naps and aren’t exhausted by sunset time
