Ah, the magic that is Destin, Florida. This stretch of the Emerald Coast never fails to amaze me with its pristine waters, shimmering sands, and skies that look like they were painted by angels. This week, I had the privilege to witness an extra sprinkle of magic, courtesy of the most adorable little baby boy and his wonderful family during their sunset newborn beach session. As a Destin newborn photographer, these tiny, brand-new beach sessions are some of the most special moments I get to capture along the Gulf.

A Nautical Newborn Session on the Destin Sand

The sunset was a breathtaking cascade of purples, oranges, and deep blues, acting as the perfect backdrop to our main star: a precious baby boy nestled cozily inside a little wooden boat with a life ring, embodying the spirit of the ocean. His gentle slumber, with those tiny fingers curled and soft breaths against the cool evening breeze, made for moments that simply begged to be captured. We styled the boat right on the sand at the water’s edge so the Gulf could roll softly behind him in every frame.

A Mother’s Tender, Grace-Filled Love

Speaking of beauty, the mother was the epitome of grace. Her love and tender care for her child and family were evident in every glance and every gesture. It is heartwarming moments like these that make me fall in love with my job over and over again. The entire family had an aura of love and serenity about them that my camera absolutely adored — the kind of soft, real connection that makes a newborn beach session feel timeless instead of staged.

Big Brother Plays in the Waves

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, the oldest son decided to get his feet wet. The laughter, splashes, and playful chases with the waves were moments of pure, unfiltered joy. The azure waters of Destin mirrored the skies, creating a dreamlike ambiance. I could see the baby’s fascination as the waves lapped near his little boat and the delight in his big brother’s eyes as he played around in the shallows. These in-between candid moments are some of my favorites in any family or newborn session.

  • A relaxed call time about 90 minutes before sunset so we have plenty of soft light and zero pressure on the baby.

  • Plenty of breaks built in for feeding, soothing, and cuddles — the baby always sets the pace.
