Every now and then, life grants us moments so perfect they linger in memory like a cherished melody. As a Destin family photographer, I had one of those evenings with this family on the rocky jetties at Destin’s Jetties Beach Access — a stretch of shoreline where the sea oats sway, the salty breeze never lets up, and the sun puts on a show every single night.

Why the Destin Jetties Are One of My Favorite Family Session Spots

Nestled along the shoreline, where the salty breeze kisses the air and the rhythmic symphony of crashing waves becomes a lullaby, lies a haven of tranquility — a stretch of beach adorned with rugged jetties that cradle the essence of countless Destin sunsets. The mix of sugar-white sand, sea-oat dunes, and dramatic rock formations gives families a backdrop you simply can’t get anywhere else along the Emerald Coast.

Arriving at Golden Hour

We arrived at the beach with the sand cool beneath our feet and the distant cries of seagulls welcoming us to their coastal domain. Anticipation hung in the air as we made our way toward the rocky jetties, the orange glow of the sun already casting long shadows across the dunes. The family settled in, the kids relaxed, and we began to play.

Chasing the Sunset on the Jetties

With each passing moment, the sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant color. The sun, a molten ball of fire, dipped gracefully below the horizon, casting a cascade of warm hues across the heavens. Oranges melted into pinks, and purples whispered goodnight as the day surrendered to the night. The jetties, standing sentinel, absorbed the kaleidoscope of colors, creating a surreal backdrop for capturing this family’s memories.

The beauty of a Destin Jetties session is the variety packed into one location. We moved between the sea-oat dunes for soft, classic portraits, the open expanse of soft Destin sand for full-family frames, and the dramatic rock formations of the jetties themselves for something a little more cinematic. Each part of the beach added a different texture to the gallery.
