A WaterSound Beach Sunset Family Session
Few places along Florida’s coastline capture golden hour quite like WaterSound Beach. With its sugar-white sand, wooden boardwalks winding through sea oats, and wide-open dunes that glow amber as the sun drops toward the Gulf, it’s become one of the most requested locations for family portraits on 30A. This sunset session with the Binkley family is a perfect example of why.
Starting on the Boardwalk
We began the evening up on the boardwalk, and this family made the most of it right from the start. Father and daughters shared an easy, joyful embrace, a mother wrapped her arms around her girls, and a couple paused together as the sun sat low behind them. The warm, backlit glow through the dune grass gives these boardwalk portraits their signature soft, dreamy quality, and it’s a relaxed place to begin a session while everyone settles in.
Wandering the Dunes and Sea Oats
From the boardwalk we stepped down into the dunes, where the sea oats caught the evening light beautifully. This spot is one of my favorites for family sessions because it adds so much texture and depth to the images, whether it’s a wide shot of the whole family nestled among the grasses or a quieter, closer portrait of just one member of the group taking a moment to enjoy the view.
Golden Hour at the Water’s Edge
We finished the evening down on the open beach, letting the family walk, laugh, and settle into the moment as the light softened. There’s a certain kind of connection that shows up once everyone stops posing and starts just being together, and that’s exactly what unfolded here. Sisters walked hand in hand along the water’s edge, a couple shared a quiet moment near the shoreline, and the whole family came together for an embrace as the sky shifted into shades of pink and gold.
Why WaterSound Beach is a 30A Favorite for Family Photography
Between the natural boardwalks, the untouched dunes, and that unmistakable sunset light at the shoreline, WaterSound Beach offers a little bit of everything in a single session. It’s a location I return to again and again with families visiting Santa Rosa Beach and Destin, because it photographs beautifully no matter which direction the story goes, playful and candid, or quiet and posed.
If you’re planning a trip to WaterSound Beach, Alys Beach, or anywhere along 30A and want to capture your own family’s golden hour, I’d love to help you create images like these. Reach out to book your sunset family photography session today.
