A Destin Sunset Family Session with the P Family

There is a particular kind of evening on the Gulf when the clouds stack up tall over the water and every one of them catches fire at once. That is the sky the P family got. As a Destin Family Photographer I build every session around the last hour of daylight, and this one delivered from the first frame to the last, moving from warm gold on the dry sand to deep violet and coral over the water.

Starting in the Soft Sand

We opened on the dry sand while the light was still high and warm. Their son led the way here, first standing at the edge of the wet sand in his camel hoodie with the clouds towering behind him, then settling into the sand for a few quieter portraits of his own. From there we brought his parents in: an arms-around-him moment with his mom, a bit of roughhousing with his dad, and a full family frame with all three of them sitting together as the sun dropped lower. Sand portraits are where families loosen up, and you can watch it happening across these images.

Just the Two of Them

I always carve out a few minutes for the parents alone, and it is the one thing I push for as a Destin Family Photographer no matter how short the light is getting. Mom and Dad walked out to the wet sand and I stepped back to let the sky take over, giving them a wide, quiet frame with the whole coastline glowing behind them. Ten years from now that is often the image families are most grateful they have. We followed it with all three of them close together at the water’s edge, and then a burst of pure silliness where the two of them swung their son up between them and everyone lost it laughing.

Into the Gulf

By then the water was calling, and this is my favorite part of any beach session I shoot as a Destin Family Photographer. Their son waded into the shallows and then straight out into the emerald water, swimming and floating and grinning while the clouds turned pink and purple above him. Mom went in after him, floral dress and all, and the two of them rode out a few breaking waves together. Wet clothes, salt water, no hesitation from anyone. Add the tall summer cloud formations that build over the Gulf and you get evenings like this one, where the sky changes character every few minutes.
