Golden hour on the Emerald Coast is my favorite hour of the day. Evenings like this one are exactly why I love being a Destin beach family photographer. The sand cools off and the crowds head to dinner. Then the light goes soft and warm, right as the J family walks onto the sand.

Watching Families Grow In Front Of My Lens

I really do think I have the most amazing job in the world. It is not just about pretty pictures on the beach. Year after year, I get to watch families grow right in front of my lens.

This is one of those families. I have been photographing them since the kids were tiny. Coming back to them each year has been such a gift. Wobbly little toddlers have turned into confident kids with big personalities. They also have even bigger opinions about how they want to pose. Their parents have settled into the easy rhythm of it all. Being the one they call every year to document that growth is the best part of what I do. It is why returning families mean so much to me.

Why Destin Is Such A Beautiful Backdrop

As a Destin photographer, I never get tired of that white quartz sand and impossibly green water. Destin gives us clean backgrounds, wide open sky, and dunes with sea oats that catch the light. There is a spot for every family here. Some love the calm, tucked away stretches of beach. Others want wide open sand where kids can run and splash.

Tips For A Smooth Sunset Session

As a Destin photographer, here is what I tell every family before we meet on the sand. Plan around sunset light and arrive a few minutes early so nobody feels rushed. Choose soft, coordinating colors rather than exact matching outfits. Pick fabrics that move nicely in the Gulf breeze. Pack a towel and a change of clothes for the kids, because the water always wins. Almost every Destin beach family photographer session I shoot ends with one soaked kid. Those are usually my favorite frames of the night.
