A Bittersweet Sunset: Saying Goodbye to the J Family

As a premier Destin family photographer, I’m often invited to capture vacation memories for families visiting our coast. But every so often, I get to step behind the lens for people who are truly near and dear to my heart.

This session with the “J” Family was one of those special ones. Our sons have played baseball together for the last few years, and through countless innings and long tournament weekends, our families have grown close. When they told me they were moving to Tennessee this summer, I knew we had to get one last session on the sand to commemorate their time here in Florida.

Memories with Your Destin Family Photographer

We met at sunset to take advantage of that famous “golden hour” glow. Seeing their little girl and boy playing along the shoreline was a reminder of how quickly time flies. As a Destin family photographer, I always aim to highlight the natural beauty of our surroundings—the sugar-white sand and emerald water—but for this sweet family, those elements were more than just a backdrop. They were the setting for their life over the last few years.

Watching the kids run through the shallow waves and hunt for seashells one last time was incredibly moving. We made sure to capture those sweet, candid moments of childhood that they’ll want to hold onto as they start their new adventure in the mountains.

From the Ball Field to the Beach

It’s a unique experience to photograph close personal friends. Instead of the usual “get to know you” small talk, our beach session was filled with talk of upcoming moves and “remember when” baseball stories.

While I’m so sad to see this family leave our local community, I am incredibly honored that I could be their Destin family photographer one final time before their big move. I hope that when they are settled in Tennessee, they can look at these portraits and feel the warmth of the Florida sun and the peace of the Emerald Coast.
