30A & Destin Family Photography

Luxury 30A Family Photography
on Florida’s Emerald Coast

Welcome! I’m Amanda, an Emerald Coast storyteller specializing in luxury 30A family photography that turns fleeting vacation moments into timeless treasures. In addition, I serve the stunning Emerald Coast from Destin to Seaside and Rosemary Beach. Moreover, my portfolio reflects the vibrant color, golden light, and relaxed coastal spirit of this beautiful place. Above all, my approach centers on connection, joy, and authenticity.

How I Photograph Families on 30A

As a Destin photographer and 30A photographer, I work with everything from intimate sessions of a few people to 20-person extended family groups. However, instead of stiff, forced poses, I focus on real interactions, candid smiles, and the small details that make your family unique. For example, I might catch a grandparent’s quiet laugh or a toddler’s barefoot sprint down the shoreline. As a result, the final gallery feels like your family — not a catalog shoot.

Sessions for Every Stage of Life

Ultimately, whether you’re searching for a 30A family photographer for a sunrise session, a Destin family photographer for an extended sunset portrait, or simply the perfect coastal photographer for your once-a-year vacation memories, I’d love to be the one to capture this chapter for you. Of course, families change quickly, and therefore each season together is worth preserving. Finally, if your family is also dreaming of 30A senior portraits, a maternity or newborn session, or engagement photos on 30A, I can help with those too. In short, whatever stage you’re in, there’s a session designed for you.

Best 30A & Destin Locations for Family Photography

As a 30A family photographer based on Florida’s Emerald Coast, I work with families across all of the most picturesque beach towns and coastal communities. For example, each location offers a different feel, from charming cobblestone streets to dramatic white dunes and turquoise water. Below, here are my favorite 30A and Destin beaches for beach family photography:

  • Rosemary Beach — European-inspired cobblestone streets, dramatic archways, and lush courtyards. Perfect for families who want a timeless, romantic, “destination wedding” feel.
  • Alys Beach — Stunning all-white architecture and palm-lined paths. Ideal for modern, editorial-style family portraits.
  • Seaside — Pastel cottages, white picket fences, and iconic beach pavilions. Great for classic Americana family photos.
  • Grayton Beach — Rustic, untouched beauty with weathered dunes and sea oats at the protected Grayton Beach State Park. Best for families who love a moody, natural, barefoot vibe.
  • Watercolor — Sugar-white sand, swaying boardwalks, and that signature emerald water of South Walton’s 30A beaches. A favorite for extended family beach photos.
  • Santa Rosa Beach — Quieter dunes and panoramic Gulf views. Perfect for relaxed, intimate sessions with young children.
  • Watersound & Carillon Beach — Coastal-cottage charm with grassy dunes and softer crowds. Ideal for stress-free family sessions.
  • Miramar Beach & Destin — Classic Emerald Coast sand and sunset skies. The go-to for families staying in Destin who want that quintessential beach portrait.

Of course, not sure which location is right for your family? When you book, I’ll walk you through each option based on where you’re staying, your style, and the look you’re hoping for.

Sunrise vs. Sunset Family Sessions on 30A

One of the most common questions I hear as a 30A family photographer is, “What time of day is best for our beach family photos?” The honest answer: both sunrise and sunset are beautiful — but the right choice depends on your family.

First, Sunrise Sessions are my recommendation for families with young children, babies, or anyone who wants the beach mostly to themselves. The light is soft, pastel, and golden. The crowds are nonexistent. Toddlers are at their happiest, hair is still done from the morning, and the entire experience feels calm and unrushed. Indeed, sunrise on 30A is a hidden gem — see more sunrise beach photography sessions from past families.

On the other hand, Sunset Sessions are perfect for families with older kids, teens, or extended family groups coming in from out of town. The warm, golden-hour glow is unmatched, and the sky often paints itself in pinks, oranges, and lavenders. In addition, sunset works best when your family has had time to relax during the day and isn’t tied to early bedtimes.

In any case, I always schedule sessions during the “golden hour” — the time right at sunrise or just before sunset — when the light is most flattering.

What to Wear for Your 30A Family Beach Portrait Session

First of all, what you wear can make or break your family beach photos. After more than a decade as a 30A and Destin beach family photographer, here are my best wardrobe tips:

  • Stick to a color palette, not matching outfits. Choose 3–4 complementary colors and let each family member pull from that palette. Soft neutrals (cream, sand, taupe, dusty blue, sage, blush) photograph beautifully on the Emerald Coast. (New to the area? My 30A visitor guide has my favorite local tips for families.)
  • Choose flowy fabrics. Maxi dresses, linen shirts, and lightweight cotton move beautifully in the Gulf breeze and add a dreamy quality to your images.
  • Avoid logos, big graphics, and neon. They date your photos and pull attention away from your family’s faces.
  • Layer in texture. Lace details, linen, ruffles, and soft knits create depth and interest in the final images.
  • Go barefoot. Trust me — bare feet in the sand always look better than shoes in family beach portraits.
  • Think about hair and accessories. Loose waves, simple jewelry, and a fresh face go a long way. Skip heavy makeup that won’t read well in golden-hour light.

Your Personal Beach Styling Guide

Finally, once you book your family session, I provide a styling guide with outfit inspiration boards tailored to your type of session. Most importantly, you’ll never have to wonder if your family will coordinate — I’ll help you nail it. Reach out to book your 30A family session and I’ll send your styling guide right after we confirm your date.

I don’t know where to even begin! Amanda’s work is exceptional, and our children are still talking about how much fun the shoot was! She made it so easy and enjoyable, even with four kiddos who rarely sit still, let alone smile in the same direction! The images she captured blew us away and are memories we will cherish forever. The only difficulty is narrowing down our favorites because we love them all! Thank you Amanda! 10/10 recommended!

“Amanda’s work is phenomenal. She made my husband and I feel very comfortable when taking photos to commemorate our 15 year wedding anniversary in Seaside. I shared my favorites on Facebook and Instagram and everyone has raved about them and loved them as much as we do. I’ve had trouble deciding which I love the most so the option of being able to purchase the digital files was a plus. I hope to have our family return to the area to do a session with her in the future!”

“I cannot say enough good things about Amanda! She has an amazing and beautiful personality, her pictures were just what we wanted! We can’t wait for our next vacation for more amazing photos! Highly recommend!!!”

Honestly, both are beautiful — it depends on your family.

Sunrise sessions are my recommendation for families with young children or babies; the light is soft, crowds are nonexistent, and toddlers are at their happiest.

Sunset sessions are perfect for families with older kids, teens, or extended family groups who want that warm golden-hour glow.

Either way, I always shoot during ‘golden hour’ — the 60 minutes around sunrise or sunset — when the light is most flattering on the Emerald Coast.

Typically, 30A family photography session investment varies based on session length, the number of locations, and the digital collection you choose.

You can see more details on The 30A Photography Experience page or get the Full pricing and collection details when you completely the contact form at the bottom of the page.

Reach out for current pricing and I’ll send you a detailed investment guide within 24 hours.

  • The session fee covers booking & shooting of the session.
  • Additionally, all digital files, prints & products are sold separately from the session fee.
  • In approximately 1-3 weeks I will send over an online gallery for you to review the images for 15 days.  If you need help in selecting images or would like to see images on the wall (YES, I really can do that), just let me know. We can set up a Zoom design meeting to put a print order together.

Individual Family Sessions include Mom, Dad & kids.

Extended Family Sessions include the Whole Family. Mom, Dad, Kids, Grandparents, Aunts. Uncles, etc.

Absolutely, extended family beach photography is one of my favorite types of sessions. I regularly photograph multi-generational gatherings of 10, 15, 20+ people from grandparents down to brand-new babies. These sessions take a little extra planning (timing, location choice, and posing groupings), but the results are heirloom images your family will treasure for generations. Watercolor, Watersound, and Carillon Beach are my top picks for extended family beach photos because they offer more space and softer crowds.

Generally, I recommend booking your 30A family photographer 3-6 months in advance, especially if you’re planning around summer, spring break, fall break, or Thanksgiving week. My sunset sessions during peak weeks book out 6+ months ahead. For off-peak winter and early-spring dates, 4-8 weeks is typically enough notice.

If you’re traveling and have firm dates, reach out as soon as you book your accommodations.

Generally, I prefer to shoot at a location near you. Depending on where you are staying I can recommend a beach access. That is usually anywhere from Destin to Rosemary Beach. Depending on my schedule I will occasionally shoot in Navarre, Pensacola, Gulf Shores, Panama City Beach all the way to Cape San Blas.

Please chat with me about locations BEFORE you book to confirm my schedule allows for me to travel.

There’s no single ‘best’ beach on 30A — it really depends on the look you’re after. Rosemary Beach is unmatched for European-inspired courtyards and cobblestone streets. Alys Beach offers stunning all-white architecture for modern, editorial-style portraits. Seaside brings the classic pastel-cottage Americana feel. Grayton Beach is rustic and barefoot. Watercolor and Watersound are favorites for extended family beach photos. When you book, I’ll walk you through every option based on where you’re staying and the vibe you want.

Then, after you book, you will receive a “Pre Session Questionnaire. This will help me get to know you prior to the session.  You will also get the link to my NEWStyle & Prep Guide” which has a ton of information like sample color palettes with clothing images & direct links to make shopping for “what to wear” so easy. The guide also has tips for prepping for your session & a “Day of Checklist”  to make sure you don’t forget anything.

If we are shooting on the beach PLEASE remember that it’s ALWAYS windy on the beach. I STRONGLY suggest leaving hair & make-up to the pros. They are used to the beach wind & humidity and not to mention its a great excuse to get a little bit of pampering before the session. In the “Client Guide” which you get after you book there will be a list of local ladies that I highly recommend.

I STRONGLY suggest to take make the time to get hair & make-up done for any photo shoot.

Absolutely! In fact, that’s what I’m known for!

Throughout your session, I’ll give you tons of ideas and directions to help you feel completely at ease. You’ll also get gentle coaching to feel like the beauty queen you are. Don’t be surprised if I ask you to walk towards me like you’re on a catwalk or give me your ‘soft smile’ (aka smirk)! (Consider yourself warned! ;))

Ideally, a well rested, well fed, happy child. Since we know that doesn’t always happen as planned, feel free to bring some snacks and a few of your child’s favorite things. They’ll help your little one feel comfortable and enjoy our play date.

Pets, lollies, loveys, tutus, capes, umbrellas, instruments – whatever makes you and them happy. Same goes for seniors and adults!

Of course, we understand that unexpected things come up. If you need to reschedule, please call us as soon as possible. If you are sick,  it is better to go ahead and reschedule your session. The session fee can be transferred towards another session on another date as long as you re-book within 12 months from your original appointment time as schedule allows.

Shhhhh we don’t say that word around here it’s always sunny in Florida! Right?

If it’s a less than 90% chance of rain at the location, then we will wait till just before session to see if it’s actually raining. However, if it’s a 100% chance of rain, I still wait till 2-3 hours before the session before calling it off. I have had MANY MANY times where we called off the session at noon. Then at 5–6pm it was gorgeous on the beach and raining inland. In addition, if it does happen to be raining during your session, we will figure out the next best time. We’ll lock in the new schedule before you leave to go home. For example, that may mean getting up at sunrise (I know that is usually VERY early but it’s gorgeous & cooler than sunset).

Of course, if for some reason we can not reschedule during this visit, no worries. Your session fee is transferable to another date within a year of our original date scheduled.

Typically, in 2-3 weeks, your images will be ready.

  • How does the “Online Gallery” work?  I will upload your 30+ edited images with a watermark on them. You will have 15 days to make your purchasing decisions. If you are having a hard time deciding you can schedule a Zoom design meeting with me to go over images & see images on your walls. I do charge $200 extending gallery fee, please make your selections before the gallery expires.
After your session, the images will be color corrected, brightness adjusted & some editing to them.

However, I do not heavily edit, “retouch” or “detail edit” every image in your gallery. As a result, some images in your gallery will have more touch-ups than others. I do this intentionally to demonstrate the achievable edits, such as removing people from the background, “popping” the colors, removing bruises, touching up “boo boo’s”, etc. This is to provide you with an idea of the final result. The majority of the images in the gallery will NOT undergo detailed editing.

For the images you select to purchase in your digital collection or print through me, I am happy to detail edit. In my experience, many images are nearly perfect except for specific areas that may require editing. Therefore, I will include some images in your gallery that I anticipate will need additional edits.
