Watercolor offers a stunning variety of backdrops, which is exactly why it’s one of my favorite communities on 30A to photograph. The most iconic spot is Watercolor Beach itself, where powdery white sand meets emerald-green water — perfect for sunrise family portraits, maternity sessions, and barefoot couples walks along the shore. For a softer, more dramatic feel, the Watercolor sand dunes framed by sea oats create timeless, fine-art images, especially in the golden hour just before sunset.

Just steps off the beach, Western Lake (one of Florida’s rare coastal dune lakes inside Grayton Beach State Park, bordering Watercolor) provides a gorgeous freshwater contrast with cypress trees, paddleboards, and reflective light that’s beautiful for engagement and lifestyle sessions. The Watercolor BoatHouse and Cerulean Park areas offer charming architectural details, white railings, and Southern coastal style — ideal for family portraits when you want a polished, magazine-worthy backdrop without the wind of the open beach.

For something a little more whimsical, the tree-lined streets and pastel cottages throughout the community create an editorial, storybook feel that works beautifully for senior portraits and milestone sessions. And if you love a natural, untouched setting, the nature trails and boardwalks weaving through Watercolor’s preserved coastal forests give us shaded, dappled light that’s flattering on any skin tone.

When you book your session with me, I’ll help you choose the location that best matches your style, your outfits, and the time of day we’re shooting — so every photo feels like it was made just for your family.

For Watercolor beach photography, I exclusively shoot at sunrise (click here for sunrise samples) or in the hour just before sunset (click here for sunset samples). Your exact session time will vary depending on the season, sunrise sessions in June, for example, start much earlier than they do in October.

These “golden hour” windows allow me to capture the soft, warm, naturally flattering light that Watercolor is famous for. The Emerald Coast’s bright sun reflects intensely off the white sand and emerald-green water, so any session scheduled outside of these times would result in harsh shadows, blown-out highlights, and a lot of squinting, not the relaxed, glowing portraits you came to 30A for.

By shooting at sunrise or sunset, we get cooler temperatures, fewer crowds on the beach, and that signature dreamy light that makes Watercolor family photos feel like a piece of art you’ll treasure forever.

“If you’re looking for a photographer who is patient, kind, and genuinely great with kids, look no further than Amanda! She recently photographed our family and managed to capture the true spirit of all my children. As a mom to a son with autism, I’m often worried about how photo sessions will go, but Amanda was so accommodating and patient. She got ‘insanely amazing’ shots of him that we will treasure forever. 10/10 recommend!”

“Amanda had done several sessions for my family and each one has been a fun, memorable experience. With two small kids I always worry about not getting any good shots due to the littles not wanting to cooperate, but Amanda manages to get the best pictures! She is so good with kids, very patient and knows just how to get them interested! No matter what the conditions outside, she always gets those really creative, insanely amazing photos. She is the first photographer I think of when someone asks me for recommendations! Highly professional, very friendly, quality work. You can’t go wrong!!”

“Amanda is absolutely fantastic! She did some photos for my finance and I that were absolutely breathtaking. The shoot was a little early but that suggestion made the light and the sky absolutely POP as the perfect background for our shoot! Highly recommend for anyone doing family or engagement shoots!”

Amanda recently captured engagement photos on Watersound Beach for my fiance and me. She even included our parents in on a few of them, which made the experience all the more special. She did SUCH an amazing job telling us exactly how to pose for the best shot, and she had many creative ideas. Not to mention the fact that she was always very quick to respond to calls, texts, and emails throughout the entire process! Whenever I decide to have another beach photo shoot, I will hands down choose Amanda again! We are so happy with the product and quality of her work. Give her a chance and you will absolutely love it too!!
